24/7 Auto-Loop
Understand how YouCast's auto-loop feature keeps your stream running continuously.
The auto-loop feature is at the heart of what makes YouCast a true 24/7 streaming platform. When enabled, your stream playlist will repeat continuously — the moment the last video in your playlist finishes, playback seamlessly returns to the first video and the cycle continues indefinitely.
How Auto-Loop Works
YouCast's cloud encoder manages the looping logic on the server side. Unlike local streaming tools that require a PC to remain on, YouCast maintains a persistent connection to YouTube's RTMP ingestion endpoint and continuously feeds video data from your playlist, looping it in real time.
Stream starts
YouCast starts sending the first video in your playlist to YouTube via RTMP.
First video completes
As the first video ends, YouCast immediately queues the next video in the playlist with no visible gap or buffering.
Playlist completes
When the last video ends, YouCast loops back to the first video and starts the cycle again.
Infinite loop
This process continues indefinitely until you manually stop the stream from your dashboard.
Seamless transitions
YouCast pre-buffers the next video before the current one ends, ensuring near-seamless transitions between videos in the playlist. Viewers typically experience transitions of less than 1 second.
Enabling Auto-Loop
Auto-loop can be toggled in your stream settings. When you create a stream, you will see a Loop toggle in the configuration panel. Enable it before starting the stream, or toggle it from the stream's settings page while the stream is live. Changes take effect at the end of the currently playing video.
Streams Without Auto-Loop
If you disable auto-loop, your stream will play through the entire playlist once and then stop. The YouTube Live event will be ended and the broadcast will conclude. This is useful if you want to broadcast a single event or a curated playlist and have it end naturally.
Auto-Restart vs Auto-Loop
It is important to distinguish between two different automatic behaviors in YouCast:
| Feature | Purpose | Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-Loop | Repeats the playlist when it finishes | End of playlist |
| Auto-Restart | Recovers from unexpected stream failures | Stream disconnection or error |
Both features work independently. A stream can have auto-loop enabled (to repeat content) and auto-restart active (to recover from failures). Together, they ensure true 24/7 uptime for your broadcast.
Best Practices for 24/7 Streams
- Use at least 3–5 videos in your playlist to provide variety and reduce viewer fatigue from repetition
- Ensure all videos in the playlist are fully processed before starting the stream
- Keep your total playlist duration above 30 minutes for a natural-feeling broadcast
- Add a recurring intro or branding video at the start of each loop if desired
- Monitor your stream health periodically from the YouCast dashboard to catch any issues early
