Monitoring

Track your stream health, status, and performance from the YouCast dashboard.

YouCast provides real-time monitoring tools to help you keep track of your active streams. From the Streams dashboard, you can see live status indicators, uptime information, and receive alerts when something goes wrong.

Stream Status Indicators

Each stream in your dashboard displays a status badge that reflects its current state:

StatusColorMeaning
IdleGrayThe stream is created but not running
StartingYellowThe stream encoder is initializing (30–60 seconds)
LiveGreenThe stream is actively broadcasting to YouTube
RestartingOrangeThe stream encountered an error and is auto-restarting
StoppingYellowThe stream is in the process of shutting down
ErrorRedThe stream failed after multiple restart attempts and needs attention

Stream Health Metrics

For active streams, YouCast displays the following real-time metrics on the stream detail page:

  • Uptime — total time the stream has been continuously live
  • Currently playing — the title and timestamp of the video currently in playback
  • Loop count — how many times the playlist has completed a full loop
  • Bitrate — the current outgoing stream bitrate in kbps
  • Stream health score — a composite indicator of encoder performance and connection stability

YouTube Studio Integration

In addition to YouCast's built-in monitoring, you should periodically check your YouTube Studio for stream analytics. YouTube provides detailed viewer statistics, peak concurrent viewers, and chat activity that are not available directly in YouCast:

1

Open YouTube Studio

Go to studio.youtube.com and sign in with the Google account connected to your channel.

2

Navigate to Live Dashboard

Click "Go Live" or find your live stream in the Content → Live tab.

3

View stream analytics

See concurrent viewers, chat messages, and stream health indicators provided by YouTube directly.

Stream alerts

Enable stream error and auto-restart notifications in your account settings (Settings → Notifications) to receive email alerts the moment something goes wrong with your stream, even if you're not watching the dashboard.

Stream History and Logs

YouCast maintains a history of stream events for each stream, accessible from the stream detail page under the "History" tab. This log shows start times, stop times, auto-restart events, error messages, and duration of each session. History is retained for 30 days on all plans.
